Coast Miwok Assertions
The photograph above shows where Francis Drake anchored the Golden Hind, encamped his crew, and made the Nova Albion (New Albion) claim for Queen Elizabeth in 1579. At the time, Drake was in traditional Coast Miwok homeland, an area now known as Point Reyes National Seashore in California.
